Thank you for contacting SONY.
There is a possibility that the memory of the unit has some how become confused which will cause the problem that you are experiencing. Try doing the following:
1) Take the handset off of the base unit and remove the battery pack.
2) Unplug the AC adapter from the wall power outlet.
3) Push every button on the handset one time individually.
4) Let the unit sit for approximately 45 minutes, without power.
5) Put the battery back in the handset and plug the power cord back in.
6) Set the handset down on the base unit for one minute.
7) Pick the handset back up, wait one more minute, then set back down.
Doing these steps will reset the unit back to factory settings. However, there are a couple of items that should also be checked:
- Make sure that the AC Power Adapter is secure into both the base unit and into the wall outlet.
- Make sure that the battery terminals and connectors are wiped clean on both the handset and the base unit.
- Make sure that battery is hooked securely in the handset
Depending on the age, usage and proper charging procedure, the battery may need to be replaced. The normal life expectancy of the Sony batteries is approximately a year and a half.
If the problem persists once you have tried the above, we would recommend bringing the phone in for a repair evaluation. You may obtain the location of your nearest Sony Factory Service Center or Authorized Service Center on our website by accessing:

My cordless phone will not disconnect. I've had the phone for a little while, and it worked fine, but suddenly the phone won't hang up. When the phone is plugged in, it's as though it's "off the hook", even though it's not turned on. When making a call, the 'off' button does not work to disconnect the line, only to turn the phone off. Is there any remedy for this, or is it just the cause of a power surge or other glitch?
